AIRMAR’S NEW B164 1kW TILTED ELEMENT™ TRANSDUCER DELIVERS SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE FOR FAST CENTER CONSOLE BOATS
1kW Flush Mount Design Provides Vertical Beam on Deep V Boats
2006-12-01Whether they’re tournament pros chasing kingfish, Northeast striper anglers or bluewater
specialists making the long run to the tuna grounds, owners of today’s popular “go-fast” center
console fishing boats share a common dilemma: They need the best possible bottom and target
tracking from their high-end echosounders, yet they can’t have any protrusions below the hull
that could compromise their boats’ performance.
Airmar Technology Corp. has solved this dilemma with the introduction of its new 1kW B164
Tilted Element™ transducer. This new flush-mount, through-hull transducer is ideal for highperformance, trailered tournament sport fishing vessels, or any boat that cannot accommodate a traditional through-hull with a High-Performance Fairing. The B164’s bronze housing protrudes less than 1/4-inch outside the hull, so it doesn’t interfere with water flow or hull performance at any speed. It’s robust housing and transducer face design can even sit on trailer rollers or bunks without being damaged.
The true engineering genius of the B164, however, lies in its tilted element design. With the
ceramic array tilted inside the housing, the transducer can be mounted on angled hull surfaces
while focusing its energy directly below the boat. “To get the best performance from any highpowered echo sounder, the transducer needs to be a ‘straight shooter,” said Mark Reedenauer, Product Marketing Manager for Airmar. “Projecting a perfectly vertical beam will provide the strongest echo returns of bottom and fish targets, so you can really determine what’s below and around your boat. It’s this type of performance that gives the best tournament anglers a competitive edge,” he added.
Airmar’s new B164 comes in two versions to accommodate different hull styles. A 12-degree
tilted version is ideal for vessels with eight- to 15-degree deadrise angles. A 20-degree tilted
version is designed to provide vertical beam orientation on fishing boats with 16- to 24-degree
hull deadrise. An arrow on the transducer cap points toward the keel, making proper installation
and beam orientation easy.
Airmar’s new B164 is compatible with a variety of high-performance 600W to 1kW
echosounders from all major manufacturers.
